If you’ve ever thought deviled eggs were boring, this spicy deviled eggs recipe is about to change your mind. These kimchi deviled eggs are bold, fiery, and gut-healthy, basically everything your usual mayo-and-mustard version isn’t. I first made them for a summer BBQ and now they’re a go-to for gatherings and game days, just like these crowd-pleasing balsamic glazed bacon wrapped steak or my gluten-free chicken wings recipe.

Made with just a few clean ingredients and no weird condiments, this recipe skips the typical sugar-laden sauces for real flavor and whole foods. If you love savory bites that double as tasty snacks, you’ll also want to try my spicy chicken bites and salt and vinegar chickpeas.

    💭Why You'll Love This Recipe

Bold Flavor: These are the best keto deviled eggs because they pack such a gut-healthy punch of bold spicy flavor.

Versatile: the deviled eggs are easy to adapt as per personal preference or occasion, and you can reduce or increase the spice as needed.

Healthy: Made without hidden seed oils and Whole30 and keto-friendly, these deviled eggs are a twist on a classic that everyone falls in love with.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

Image with text: ingredients in measuring spoons with a blue bowl of boiled egg yolks and hardboiled eggs behind them
    • Hard-boiled eggs: Make sure that your eggs are completely cool before peeling them. This can be done a few days in advance.
    • Paleo mayonnaise: Grab the mayonnaise from Primal Kitchen. This mayo is made with avocado oil but loses none of its flavors from the traditional version. It's how you keep the deviled eggs keto, paleo, and Whole30 approved. This is what I use for tuna salad stuffed peppers too.
    • Kimchi: Kimchi is a combination of vegetables and spices that have been fermented. Each jar is unique and flavorful. So the kind of kimchi you choose will affect the flavors of the deviled egg recipe. This is an easy way to reduce the spiciness of the deviled eggs as well. Just use a milder flavor. Something like pickled Mexican carrots works too.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    Variations

Greek yogurt: If you tolerate dairy and want a lighter taste but a thicker, creamier filling, use Greek yogurt in place of the mayonnaise. Then, use the rest to make Greek yogurt protein pudding.

Seasonings: Add some chopped jalapenos, chili flakes, pickled mustard seeds, or chives for new flavors.

How To Make Keto Deviled Eggs

Hard boiled eggs peeled and sliced on a wooden cutting board with bowls beside it.

Step 1: Boil the eggs, cool them, and peel them

Blue bowl with boiled egg yolk and measuring spoons of ingredients and sliced boiled eggs behind it.

Step 2: Carefully slice the hard-boiled eggs in half lengthwise and scoop the yolks out of the inside and into a bowl

Blue bowl with boiled egg yolk and kimchi in it with hardboiled eggs behind it.

Step 3: Mix together all of the filling ingredients until mostly smooth.

Blue bowl with deviled egg mixture in it with green spatula and hardboiled eggs behind it.

Step 4: Place the deviled egg filling back into the egg halves to finish off. Sprinkle with any garnishes.

    Expert Tips

    • Make sure to chop the kimchi finely so that it blends into the filling well. This helps make the best deviled eggs because there' no large chunks.
    • Because of the kimchi in the recipe, you cannot pipe the filling onto the hard-boiled eggs.
    • Use your best judgment on the amount of cayenne pepper to use. Taste test a bit before adding the filling to the boiled eggs. Add more cayenne pepper if you like spice.
    • The kind and brand of kimchi you purchase will affect the flavor of the Whole30 deviled eggs.

    How To Store Them

The spicy deviled eggs need to be stored in the fridge until served. Ideally, you want to use a container-specific to deviled eggs when you store them.

This prevents the eggs from sliding all over the place and creating a ginormous mess. In the fridge, they'll store well for up to 3 days.

    Keto Deviled Eggs FAQs

    Are deviled eggs healthy?

Spicy deviled eggs can be part of a healthy diet because they're high in protein. However, the mayonnaise and other ingredients you add to the yolk mixture will impact their health benefits. Try to use a mayonnaise with a healthier oil like avocado oil whenever possible.

Can you make Whole30 deviled eggs ahead of time?

Whole30 deviled eggs are best when they’ve had a chance to sit in the fridge for an hour or two before serving. This allows the flavors to infuse and the texture of the filling to settle. Make whole30 deviled eggs up to twenty-four hours ahead of when you’d like to serve them.

Is there a substitute for mayonnaise in deviled eggs?

To substitute mayonnaise in deviled eggs, you can use Greek yogurt. Make sure to use a Greek yogurt, though, and not a regular one, or your egg filling will become too runny.
